The TSV Social Area

I relaunched the social area (https://stitchersvillage.com/village) about 6 months ago.  I intend it to be member driven with the content and was hoping for organic growth as members post and discuss all things needle.  This platform offers members a profile, with function for posting photos, and discussion in a forum.  The platform I chose seems very similar to past format, but is a Wordpress plugin and I believe it will easier to find tech support, when needed.  My main thinking is that this is a place for needlework enthusiasts without all the other noise of some of the other sites.

I am looking for member feedback on whether I should maintain the social area site or dedicate time to a blog.  I have taken the time to post content from the past newsletters here on The Village Stitcher blog.  Maybe that is enough.  Going forward, I can host small “events” here.  Will you participate on the site? Thoughts?

If you would prefer not to leave a comment, you may email using the contact form on the left of the blog.

  1. I would like to participate but I do not do smalls.

  2. I'm mainly a lurker. I love reading what others are up to and always enjoyed reading the newsletters when I remembered to check for a new one. Depending on what type of events are being offered would determine my level of participation. While I do like SALs, I tend to prefer loosely set up ones that can be worked in with my own stitching plans for each month or period of time.

  3. I enjoy The Village Stitcher. As primarily a lurker, I enjoy reading stitcher's comments, finishings, and stitching pictures. I like to do smalls as I am usually able to finish them in between other hobbies (reading, diamond painting, crocheting). I often look back over past newsletters.

  4. Unfortunately I cannot find anything on this site. If there is suppose to be a conversation of some sort going on, I can't find it. No pictures, no comments, no nothing! I've gone through ALL of the menu items and there is nothing in them. I did find a couple of 6 month old messages but that was about it. So consequently, I don't visit this site because I can't find anything.

  5. Personally I prefer to stitching rather than go on social media and read everyones comments or complaints. I enjoy looking at sites when I need something, other than that, I am not interested. I find social media has become a place to promote products that are give free of charge to the promoter, making some people needing that product. Also, I found that photos of finished pieces posted are not always the item that was stitched by the person posting - it belonged to someone else or is the photo taken off the item packaging.

  6. I would enjoy visiting this site more if other stitchers were on at the same time so we could converse. Unfortunately every time I check in there is never anyone else on, so I just read the comments they left but get no response. So I go back to my stitching!

  7. I'm trying to remember to go on every once in a while. I do try to limit my time on socials but I'm hoping some old friends come back.

  8. It has been gone for so long that people are out of the habit of checking in. I try to check in every week or so, but then there is nothing new and I have not been stitching as much lately so have nothing much to post. It may just take time to rebuild and I know people are taking breaks from socials with everything going on. I'm trying to refriend as many as I remember but without people putting in a profile pic, it gets difficult. I will keep trying as long as it is available!

  10. I have to admit that unless I get an alert that there is a new post or something new to see and read that I will not automatically go to a site unless I am search for something specific. I will try to do better about checking in weekly. Note that I am not one who will typically share my experiences or what I am stitching on as I do not think that many individuals are truly interested in what I am stitching or finishing.
