Stitchers Village Community

I finally sat at my desk to evaluate the web site and community for TSV.  Prompted by a bill from my hosting, I spent quite a long time on the phone with tech support and made required changes to my account with them.  If you visit Stitchersvillage it may be down for a bit.  Once it is back online there will be drastic changes.  What those will be is still up in the air, but I will post when the hosting changes take place and I am able to get back on and do some construction.

I also visited the FB page for TSV.  I am not a frequent user there since I was bullied a few years back and found that the platform does not care.  I had to delete my page temporarily and block the person.  FB would not delete posts or anything.  I mention this because, during my visit, I was very surprised at the amount of political postings in the needlework discussions.  Not that I don’t get that people have opinions, I was seeking needlework topics and apparently my absence also reduced the amount of relevant posts to my interests.

My current stitching is “Needleworker’s Sampler” from With Thy Needle and Thread (almost done) and “Stitch Lovely Floral Sewing Machine” from Rubin Pickens Cross Stitch.  Marilyn from Picture This Plus attended market and brought this designer to my attention.  She also does quilt fabric and has cross stitch kits which include fabric for finishing.  I also have her “Pine Crossing” kit.

What project(s) are you stitching?

  1. I love historic style embroider - Husband and I are 18th reenactors. My specialty (and also what I love to do) is demonstrate stitching reproduction period pieces.

(When I don't get stuck cooking mid-day dinner over the fire for the members, firing the repro black powder cannon as they are short on crew or anything else I needed for - I am an officer of the group.)

But sitting on my rear end, stitching and talking to the public is what I like to do. Some events embroidery is not appropriate to (such as battle reenactments as opposed to local community based events) I do hand sewing . Mostly our clothing (husband and me) is machine stitched, but there is generally some repair or another for me to work at events.

We have an event this coming weekend and I plan to do embroidery - if I don't get stuck as I did at our last event - giving tours of our headquarters. Husband will be bringing his small, handheld loom and demonstrating weaving

  2. I have been working on a piece from the Heritage Collection of JCA Inc. for some time (couple of decades at least). The piece is called "Sonnet Pillow". It is worked in cotton floss, silk floss, and crewel yarn.

As mentioned on the old site and in my former post on this site I work on this piece "as an 18th housewife" at reenactment events. It is taking a good deal of time to finish it as I only work on it at events - and then only at events which are appropriate for me to do so. (A battle reenactment would NOT be appropriate, a local even where the men are meeting to practice drills and the women come along for social reasons is appropriate - the latter being most of our events.

We had an event last month at our headquarters. I am usually outside of our HQ building, somehow at this event I got stuck doing the tours. I had my embroidery with me to work on, but did not get a chance. I have it in a small round wooden box with what I need to do the stitching I plan to do that day. (Rest of related items are with me in a fabric bag which looks period.) I did not get to do any stitching at that event.

Last weekend was the next event husband and I were going to. I went to pack the box with the items needed to do stitching at the event. We could not find the box. I was beside myself that we could not find it. I finally gave in and set up a different acceptable piece to work on instead.

While we were driving to the event an idea entered my head - at the last event the box had been sitting in our HQ. Had I somehow left it in same? YES!! First thing I did when we got there - before we even setup - I went into the house. It was not on the bench I had been sitting on between tours - BUT at a small table in the front was the box - and I had forgotten that I was to sew and not embroider at that event to due its nature - also sitting there was one side of a westcoat (vest) that I had taken apart to sew holes (similar to sewing round buttonholes) down the back so that we cut out holes up the back and make the vest larger as it is too small for him!

    Thank goodness!!

I ended up working on the new piece as I had not brought the instructions for the started piece as I did not think I would see it again!

Heaven to have the piece back!! Cannot wait for the next event so I can stitch on it again.

  3. This is a very beautiful design, so vintage looking, I am so sad that you had negative comments and that political comments, what is wrong with people I am not sure.
I am so happy to be back, I have had a few years of my husbands illness on my hands, he is doing well now.
I will share on my blog about your blog if you do not mind.
